KOBE
BEAN

Kobe Bean
Bryant was born on August 23rd, 1978 in Filadelfia, Pennsylvania. He was the
youngest of the brothers, after his sisters Shaya and Sharia. His father is Joe Bryant, a professional
basketball player. When Bryant was six years old, his father left the NBA and
moved with his family to Italy. Little Bryant adapted to the lifestyle and
learned to speak Italian and Spanish very well. At an early age, he learned to
play soccer and even claimed that if he hadn't left Italy he would have become a soccer
player. His favorite teams were Milan and FC Barcelona.
In 1991 Bryant returned to the United States,
where he joined the Aces, his basketball team. Despite having a poor first
year, with only 4 wins and 20 losses, the team went on to score 77 wins and 13
losses in the next three years, becoming the highest scorer in the history of
the school with 2883 points. USA Today and Parade Magazine awarded him with the
Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award in his senior year and he was included
in the McDonald's All-America Team. He led Lower Merion to the Class AAAA state
title. He also had his best scoring game against Marple Newtown with 50 points.
After finishing high school, he decided not to go through college and to go to
the NBA draft, becoming the sixth player in the league to do so up to that
point.
